Biography

A little bit about Geoff

Geoff lives in Shropshire. He has made quite a name for himself as a singer, performer and songwriter on the folk club, local pub and festival circuit. Formerly part of the very popular duo, "Bit on the Side", who made one CD, "Running through the heart" featuring 6 of Geoff's own songs, he now performs solo.

Geoff moved to Shropshire in April 2010 and is back performing at local pubs, sessions, open mics and even care homes and busking.

In 2012 Geoff made a new album "the poor boy at the gate" which featured 17 original songs. Though physical copies are rare, it is still available via iTunes.

Geoff's own songs have proved particularly popular with many audiences around the country and he has had considerable success in songwriting competitions. He was runner up at the Poynton Folk Festival and has twice been a semi finalist in the UK Songwriting Competition.

His parents were very involved in Amateur Dramatics and Geoff has continued that musical tradition, branching off into the Folk Clubs. Geoff has always been a performer and his Dad was still singing in choirs and shows up to his death in late 2016, aged 90.

Geoff's performances vary from traditional material to contemporary songs, folk, blues, rock, pop, even the odd jazz standard can be thrown in, and plenty of variety and humour. He rarely works to a set list but being the "human juke box" that he is, he can vary his show to suit the audience.

He has supported the likes of Vin Garbutt, Jez Lowe, Bob Fox, Ben Murray & Rosie Doonan, Ryzhome, John Kirkpatrick, The Loxley Trio, Dan Owen, Goodbye Ohio and many more.

Instrumentally, Geoff plays acoustic instruments by Fylde including a Goodfellow Guitar, bouzouki and mandolin. He also plays an Avalon, a Taylor travel guitar and a guitarele by Ortega. There is a Parker P38 for an electric buzz in there too. Geoff is a Ukelele free zone. All these instruments are exclusively strung with Dadarrio and Aquila strings. He also plays Cajon, Mouth Organs by Lee Oskar and Whistles by Sweetheart & Clarke.

For gigs, Geoff has a superb PA system by LD Systems and a Roland Cube Street, both can be used in remote power free venues.

For Tech Spec please ask, but basically it's a couple of 13 amp sockets. For any bigger venues, you provide the PA and Geoff will plug into it.

If you want to sing one or two of Geoff's songs just credit him as the writer and please let him know.

Geoff has had songs played on local radio and folk programmes and The Narrowboat Sessions.

He has also written a children's Nativity Play with 6 original songs and Narrative, please email for more details.

Geoff is a member of the Musician's Union and has Public Liability Insurance, and also DBS/CRB clearance.

Among his other interests are VW vans, cycling, seafood and fly fishing.
